Perfect for a snack or a side dish, they’re easy to make and can be enjoyed by both kids and adults. Whether you’re serving them for a casual dinner or a party, these cheese-filled bites will surely be a hit.

Ingredients (Makes about 8 pieces):

  • 250g mozzarella cheese (or cheese of your choice)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour for a gluten-free version)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for dough)
  • 1 egg
  • 100ml warm water (or milk)
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for frying)
  • Optional: sesame seeds or garlic powder for topping

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Cheese Filling:
    • Cut the mozzarella cheese into small cubes or strips. Set aside.
  2. Make the Dough:
    • In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
    • Add the egg, vegetable oil, and warm water to the dry ingredients. Mix until a smooth dough forms.
    • If the dough feels too sticky, add a little more flour, but be careful not to overdo it.
  3. Shape the Bites:
    • Divide the dough into small balls, around the size of a golf ball.
    • Flatten each ball into a small disc, then place a cube or strip of cheese in the center.
    • Gently fold the dough around the cheese and seal it completely, making sure the cheese is fully encased in the dough.
  4. Fry the Savory Bites:
    • Heat the butter in a skillet over medium heat.
    • Once the butter is melted and hot, add the cheese-stuffed dough bites to the pan, making sure not to overcrowd them.
    • Fry the bites for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
  5. Serve:
    • Once fried, remove the savory bites from the skillet and place them on paper towels to drain any excess oil.
    • Optionally, sprinkle with sesame seeds or garlic powder for added flavor.
    • Serve hot, and enjoy!

Tips:

  • For extra flavor, you can add herbs such as oregano or thyme to the dough.
  • Try using different types of cheese, such as cheddar, gouda, or even cream cheese, for a variation of flavors.
  • These can also be baked in the oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 20 minutes if you prefer a healthier version.
