Amish White Bread

White bread made by Amish people:

What you need:

dried yeast, 1 1/2 tablespoons

half a cup of bread flour

15/16 teaspoon of salt

a half cup of fine sugar

1/4 cup of oil from plants

2 quarts of water

Instructions:

Dissolve the yeast in half a cup of warm water in a big mixing dish. After a few minutes, you should see the yeast begin to foam and bubble.

Whisk in the remaining 1.5 cups of hot water, along with the sugar, salt, and oil. Combine thoroughly.

While mixing, gradually add the flour in cup portions until a hard yet malleable dough forms.

Place the dough on a floured surface and, for about 10 minutes, knead it until it becomes elastic and smooth.

Spread some vegetable oil in a big mixing bowl and add the dough. Allow it to rise for about one hour, or until it has doubled in size, covered with a clean towel.

Turn the oven on high heat (350°F, 175°C).

Divide the dough into two loaves after punching it down. Put the loaves into 9×5 inch loaf pans that have been oiled.

After another half an hour, or when the dough has risen to fill the loaf pans, cover them with clean cloths and continue to let them rise.

After 30–35 minutes of preheating the oven, check on the loaves to make sure their crusts are golden brown.

After the bread has cooled for a few minutes, take it out of the oven and set it aside to drain.

The bread may be served warm or cooled and stored in an airtight container.

Soak up some warm Amish White Bread while it’s still hot.
